![]() Over the next year and and a half, Eddie and Venom would continue to protect San Francisco through their symbiosis, although the two struggled to coexist with one another due to their contrasting views about food, Anne Weying's unprecedented engagement to Dan Lewis, and other crucial elements of their life together. With the battle won and his journalistic career revitalized, Eddie decided to remain bonded with Venom and try to help the symbiote develop its morality further. Working together through their symbiosis, Eddie and Venom managed to stop Riot and Drake, incinerating the pair in a fiery explosion and exposing the Life Foundation for their numerous crimes. With the help of Anne, Eddie managed to escape Drake and reunite with an ameliorated Venom, intending to stop Drake and Riot before they could carry out the mission which the symbiotes had arrived for in the first place. ![]() However, Eddie was captured by Drake's men almost immediately after, and when interrogated by the arrogant businessman, he discovered that Drake had become bonded with another symbiote by the name of Riot. In fear, Eddie decided to separate himself from Venom with the assistance of Anne and her new boyfriend, Doctor Dan Lewis. However, in a fight with the police, Eddie was reunited with Anne, causing the two to discover data indicating that Venom was killing him slowly from the inside by decaying his internal organs. With his fate now entwined to the symbiote, who was called Venom, Eddie was coerced into helping the alien attempt to return to the Life Foundation and use their data and resources to return to the latter's home planet to permeate the Earth with it's kin, causing an alien apocalypse. Realizing that the symbiote was alive, Eddie was soon hunted down by Drake's mercenaries to be experimented on, with the conflict attracing the attention of the police force. Reluctantly agreeing to assist her, Eddie infiltrated the Life Foundation Headquarters, but accidentally became bonded with one of Drake's alien symbiotes in the process. However, six months later, Eddie was contacted by Life Foundation employee Dora Skirth, who revealed to him that the allegations had been true and that Drake was conducting human trials on the homeless that were resulting in death. While interviewing Drake, Eddie confronted him about the allegations despite lacking the conclusive evidence to prove it, resulting in him getting fired along with his fiancée, Anne Weying and causing the two to end their relationship.
